ATLANTERRA

We would like to tell you about one of the best kept secrets of the Andalusian coast. It is Atlanterra, a small paradisiacal enclave just over 3km from Zahara de los Atunes, surrounded by nature and luxury villas whose architecture blends with the natural landscape to the thousand wonders. You may wonder what makes such a small place such a special enclave. I tell you, Atlanterra is a mixture of absolute relaxation, living nature, avant-garde architecture and luxury neighborhood. On the one hand we have the modern, exclusive and elegant part that we see reflected in the villas of the urbanization of Atlanterra. Sustainable constructions that find the perfect balance in the nature of the place. Houses of all shapes and sizes, from typical beach houses, whitewashed and with a more rustic and homely look, to villas with minimalist designs, home automation that controls the entire villa and swimming pools with breathtaking views. A most picturesque neighborhood because each property tells a different story and leaves impressed everyone who takes a walk through the urbanization.

On the other hand, we find what makes Atlanterra a magical place, its beaches. This place has the good fortune to lead to three magnificent beaches: La Cala del Búnker, La Playa de los Alemanes and Playa del Cañuelo. Three jewels for its fine sand and crystal clear waters. Perfect for a day of maximum relaxation in the sun and waves. For the more adventurous, we definitely recommend La Playa del Cañuelo, located behind the Camarinal Lighthouse. Although it is not accessible by car and the hike may be considered more complicated, it is worth it. We have to go well equipped with everything we will need for a day at the beach because this place is totally virgin and does not have any trade or construction in its surroundings. A small route through the native flora of pines and broom, over sand dunes to reach one of the most wonderful beaches that exist throughout the Andalusian coastline. Believe me, it is a worthwhile experience if you decide to spend a few days on these shores. For those days of Levante that are so scary, Atlanterra also has a solution. Under no circumstances is allowed to miss a day at the beach here. We tell you the secret. In the area of the bunker and in the beach of the Germans next to the lighthouse, there are two perfect places sheltered from the wind. The rock wall of both places acts as a shelter and makes it possible to enjoy a day at the beach even if the wind is blowing wildly.

But this is not only what Atlanterra offers us. This place can be enjoyed in a thousand ways and, in addition to the hiking trails through the area of the natural park to Bolonia, we can opt for horseback riding along the beach, water sports such as kite surfing, windsurfing or paddle surfing; snorkeling or even paragliding flights from the area of Camarinal. Not to mention that, if we move away just a few kilometers, we can make some cultural excursions through the villages of Zahara de los Atunes and surroundings. So much walking, so much beach and so much physical activity usually makes you hungry and on our coasts we have the best solution to alleviate it. I am talking about fresh fish and seafood from the bay, meats from Retinto, vegetables from the neighboring gardens... In the area of urbanizations, at the beginning of Atlanterra, is where we find all this offer: beach bars on the beach where you can enjoy the best espetos, restaurants like La Sal with a menu where any dish is a safe bet, chill-out areas such as Varadero or Fire Beach.

Although we think not, Atlanterra also has its historical emblems such as the famous Cueva de las Orcas, now closed to the public, which was used by the Neolithic man as a sighting point to know the arrival of the tuna and in which cave paintings are still preserved. We also have the bunker that gives its name to the most central beach of Atlanterra, La Cala del Búnker. A military construction of the 40s that is part of a line of defense that begins in Malaga and ends in Portugal. Another of the most emblematic constructions of the area is the Camarinal Lighthouse. One of the most beautiful places in Atlanterra and from which you can see the entire coast from La Playa del Cañuelo to the Trafalgar Lighthouse in Los Caños de Meca. Our last recommendation is not to miss the sunset from this place, it is a must. From here, you can see absolutely everything, absolute magic.

WHAT TO DO IN ATLANTERRA?

Atlanterra is located in an area somewhat away from the city; further away from the hustle and bustle of the town, where you can fully enjoy the peace that offers a paradise like this. The most popular activities in this area are hiking, being the walk to the Playa del Cañuelo one of the most preferred by most; and snorkeling to know the rocky bottoms of some areas of these beautiful beaches. From time to time, we also see some paramotor flying over the vicinity of Camarinal and small groups of friends or family taking a morning bike ride through the Urbanization of Atlanterra, or going out for a morning run.

WHICH BEACHES TO GO TO IN ATLANTERRA?

In the area of Atlanterra we have 3 beaches that no one should miss. Some more accessible than others but all of them with the same charm, crystal clear waters and miles of fine sand. We have the Bunker beach, a very particular enclave that extends from the beginning of the territory of Atlanterra, to the small cove where still stands the bunker that was built during the Civil War. After it, begins the famous Playa de los Alemanes; a kilometer-long shore of white sand that reaches the Camarinal Lighthouse. It is well known for the luxurious villas that adorn its surroundings. Finally, and for the more adventurous, we have the Playa del Cañuelo, a virgin and wild spot, located behind the Camarinal Lighthouse. Its access is somewhat intricate, but it is worth venturing on this walk through pine trees and dunes to reach this hidden treasure.
